In honor of my 28th birthday, I decided to share with you some of the lessons I have learned from finding and walking in my purpose.
I’m sharing this with you because I know that sooner or later we all get to that point. The point where we ask ourselves “why am I working so hard anyway?” “What is all this success, money and fame for if I’m not happy?”
You may not be there yet or you probably are there now and I want to encourage you wherever you with 28 lessons you can learn from my journey.
I am loved no matter what, all the time
This doesn’t just apply to me, it applies to you as well. I wasted a lot of time, energy and effort looking for love outside of me, trying to earn love or chasing love until I discovered the hard way that I am love. The love I want is not out there, it is within me.I set the stage for how people treat me. And as long as I can tap into that loving place within me, I am loved all the time, no matter what.
There is more than enough. Who I am is enough. And the phrase “I am not enough” isn’t worthy of my use.
God is the ultimate supplier and because he is a God of abundance, my supply is truly unlimited. Which means there is always more than enough. And if the dream or desire involves something I was created to do, I’ll always be good enough to do it. Period.
If you think there is another way, there probably is. There is always a way. Find it.
Think big. Dream big. You have to think anyway….so why not.
Dreaming is free, allow yourself the luxury of dreaming even if you don’t believe it’s possible yet. Dream big anyway.Whatever you’re dreaming about, make it bigger.
Other people’s opinions are not my truth and they are definitely none of my business
People will always have an opinion of what I should or shouldn’t do. It is my job to remember that their opinions are based on their own limited experiences. Don’t let other people’s noise drown your own voice, instead be you, do you and give them an opportunity to learn about you and maybe they’ll also grow.
If you’ve tried and failed, dust yourself off and try again, this time with God because with God all things are possible.
My purpose is God’s way of doing his work through me. If something is not working, it’s a sign that I’m trying to do it on my own instead of allowing God to work through me. His ways are not our ways.
Meditation is not woo woo, it is essential
How else are you going to hear divine guidance and direction if you never make time to be quiet so you can listen? Meditation is the only way I know that helps me quiet my mind, relax and create a vacuum through which the divine can work through.
There is perfection in my imperfections, everything about me is purposeful
You know that thing they say about vulnerability being powerful, let’s just say when you finally experience the power of vulnerability, you will never waste a single day of your life trying to hide your imperfections, shame and pain. Own your full story, the beautiful and the ugly equally, it all happened for your good.
Forgiveness is the key to freedom and happiness
Letting go off the baggage, the pain, the drama, the insecurities, the shame, the guilt and the past is the first step to claiming back your freedom and happiness. I didn’t know how much crap from the past was dragging me down until I learned the power of forgiveness. Let that stuff go.
If it makes you feel good do it, your body was built for pleasure.
We are not here to be slaves to our jobs, bills, husbands, children, society or family. We are here to live, have fun, laugh, be happy and enjoy this beautiful gift called life. If you’re not having fun, you’re not living. Start living a little. Find at least one thing that gives you pleasure and start doing it.
Self care is not selfish
There will always be more for you to do than you can handle. Prioritize and learn to say no. You can’t help everyone.
Worrying is a waste of time and energy.
It is also a sign that you are making your problem bigger than God. If you have time to worry about it, you have time to pray about it. Step back, surrender, and allow for a miracle.
You don’t have to prove anything, you are going to do what’s never been done before. So just go and do it already.
There is something unique in each one of us that the world needs. No need to explain yourself too much. Just do you and let your results speak for you.
There is always more to learn and do. Be humble.
Nothing great happens in your comfort zone.
Failure is the greatest learning opportunity
True learning is not done in a class reading books and passing exams. True learning starts when you start applying what you know.Failure is part of the learning process.
Fail fast but fail forward
Never allow the fear of failure to paralyze you into not taking action. Take action, fail, learn and move forward. Failure does not define you. It makes you better if you learn from it.
Doers make mistakes. If you’re not making mistakes then you are not doing anything
There is always a way to turn a problem into an opportunity. Find it.
In other words, your mess is your message.
Some people will never get it. Don’t let that stop you or bother you or hold you back.
You won’t be for everyone but you are for someone. Find your people and go where you are celebrated. Not just merely tolerated.
Know your worth
Every last penny of it. And never settle for anything less. Plus stop giving a discount while you’re at it.
The price of knowing is often too high.
The price of knowing who you truly are and what you truly are here to do is often high but never let that stop you from being curious to know. Once you know, you can’t go back to being ordinary.
Listen to your heart and trust your gut
It’s not just a song, it’s also great advice. Your mind can lie, it is sly but your heart knows your truth. Listen when it speaks and trust your gut.
You attract what you are.
This applies to relationships, work and life in general. Things don’t just happen to us, we attract them into our lives. Which means that if you don’t like what you have attracted, it’s time to change who you are. Nothing ever changes unless we change who we are.
Building anything great is messy
Learn to get comfortable in the mess.
Patience is a virtue
Rome wasn’t built in a day or more like Beyonce wasn’t made in a day. God is working, be patient.
Being a mom shouldn’t be an excuse for not achieving your dreams
Motherhood is actually a catalyst and inspiration to dreaming bigger, wanting more and taking bigger risks. Not just for me but also for my family and my legacy.
Everything is temporary
Appreciate where you are, love what you have, nothing lasts forever.
